Being an expat, it's pretty common to live in some sort of bubble. Either the bubble of your newfound culture, or a bubble of people who you hang around because you can tolerate them.

Because of these bubbles...do you find yourself simply...forgetting that a certain type of person exists?

Tonight I ran into a complete douche-bag expat, and I was taken aback by him. I had, temporarily, forgotten needless sarcasm. Ya know? Has this happened to anyone else? Where you simply forget that a type of person even exists anymore and you're shocked back into reality and go "Ohhhh yeahhh...grumpy sarcastic guy with no interpersonal skills...whatchya been up to?"

Oh yeah... and I promptly go back to my bubble, the very reason I had one in the first place.

Grumpy sarcastic guy with no interpersonal skills here. Sorry to burst your happy bubble...oh wait, I'm not sorry.

I was in the video store with a college roommate and someone bumped into him by mistake while we were waiting in line. His response was a threatening arm flap and, "Watch where the F*CK you're going!"

Yeah, you know who I don't miss? Passive-aggressive woman who makes sure every compliment has a bomb attached to it.

No one I know in Korea seems to do that, its nice.

I'll be visiting home this summer and dread some of the people who I may see out on the town. Some are rude strangers and frat boys, but the worst are the friends who always have problems, never solve them, complain about them and passively make you feel guilty for living a different life than them.

My response to their moans and groans is "Sh()t happens, but you can change it."

Lol, I put a moratorium on my friends back home: whenever I'm in town, all bitching about your job must cease.

Does this allow more time for you to talk about Korea?

Most of the married people I know back home do this about their marriage too, not just their job. And then they encourage you to get married. Well, sure buddy, you just spent the past 5 hours painting a truly awesome picture of matrimony. I'll get right on that!

I kinda think that people like this don't fix their problems for the same reason that they watch the same TV shows as their friends... because then what would they have to talk about? Its their hobby!
