Does anyone know if you can rent a cell phone in Incheon Airport? If so, where, how much and what do you need (passport etc)? Thanks everyone.

You can rent cell phones from Incheon Airport. I picked up a little brochure a couple of months ago but then promply misplaced it never to be seen again. I can't tell you what the rates are but there are a couple of different places you can rent from.

I rented a phone there when I came to visit in January 2006. You either need a credit card or a cash deposit--don't remember the amount. I'm pretty sure they made a copy of my passport page. KT, SK and LG each have different booths and they all have pretty much the same outrageous per-minute rates. One of the three had free text-messaging, which is the one I chose.

It's pretty easy. You need documents & money. When you return it, you get a pretty nice discount voucher for the next time you rent -- last time I did it, it was 50% off.

You can reserve phones through this website, and it gets you a slight discount. It's a great service, and very cheap. Rates are 3000 won a day (or 2000 won if you reserve through this site). You need a passport and a credit card (used as insurance in case you run off with the phone). Other than that, there is no other money up front.

I've used this service twice this year, for my mum and a friend that came to visit. It was very easy to get, the phones they give you are pretty damn good, and to give you an example of the cost: my friend rented his for 2 full weeks, called me quite a bit and phoned home to the UK a couple of times. Cost? 32,000 won. Bloody good if you ask me.

wow!! thanks, irishjen, for that link!!

it's free SMS (text messages) until dec 31, 2007. outgoing domestic calls are 100 won/10 seconds, so not very cheap, but incoming calls in are free in korea, so you could just text people and tell them to call you! Smile i'm cheap that way...
