I'm looking to start September the first. What are hey going to think when I tell 'em now? Should I leave it until August?

Assuming you are NOT looking for a public school then you should figure on 30 days to sift through the crap offers that you WILL get to find a decent job and check the schools references.

Then you will need another 3 weeks for visa processing and travel time.

If you are willing to accept the first piece of crap contract they toss at you then you can be over here in about 7 days - working on your tourist visa while hoping you don't get caught bu immigration and waiting for your promised visa run.
