What book do you guys use to teach adults? Can you recommend a good one? I've used talk talk talk and Jazz English and I swear we've had every conversation under the sun. I'm bored, they're bored... What do you guys do in your adult classes in way of format? Any advice is accepted. |

I use Pagoda SLE 3 series. The books have interesting lessons and various activities with plenty of content. My students like these books and find them to be challenging. |

The books I use tend to depend on the what the adults are wanting to learn. "Conversation" though commonly used, is a pretty broad term. Housewives will, of course, have different goals than university students, than a group of businessmen.
The BBC website has some pretty good lessons based on stories that they have run - you can download the whole thing. I think English to Go also used to have a lot of interesting AND free stuff. |

Exploring English is picked out by hagwan owners and then picked on by ESL elitists. After going through 4 of the 6 books with one class, I learned to appreciate its richness and depth. I'm serious. |

The "Can You Believe It?" books are pretty good. They tell interesting stories using (mostly) everyday expressions, then the adults can re-tell the stories and you can discuss related topics. Most of the adults I've used it with tend to like it because it uses slang and English expressions. If you really tell them which ones are used all the time, then they make a point of it to remember them and use them properly so they can feel cool. Rightfully so. It worked with housewives and I imagine it'd do quite well with university/younger students as well. I know when I'm learning a foreign language I just love learning the slang and such. |
