Hey guys,
I'm sure more than some of you love to take travel pictures, and i dont know if any of you use any SLRs or digital SLR cameras (those "bulky" cameras for photojournalists, artists and cliche tourists).
I would like to know what are your experiences in taking pictures in Korea?
No different from lugging stuff around in the US or Europe? Or is there a lot more to be aware of (ie different cultural perspectives, thieves, crowdedness that makes it prohibitive without damaging a lens, etc..)..?
It seems like a lot of what is to see in Asia would look best through a nice telescopic lens that doesn't have a 3x zoom limitation), so for those artists at heart -- these questions go out to you and asks of your experiences.
Also, please post any photos you've taken of Korea in this thread, as its a photography interest thread! Would love to see your stuff! =)

Using my Nikon SLR here is no different than anywhere else. Why would it be? |

"Why are you making a second photo thread? "
Thanks for the attempted Moderator-ing, but theres a difference:
1.) The first thread was asking if there was a Photos thread & for photos.
2.) This one is ASKING ABOUT rules regarding *TAKING* pictures:
Ie -- Does the occassional Korean punch you in the face if you take their pictures without asking? I know a guy who got the crap beat out of him for taking pictures of people in Japan -- it was a completely public area.
(As for posting pictures -- its only filler after answering the Main question. As far as im concerned, post them whereever you want. For those who didn't read the other thread, btw, i was refered to a wonderful site: http://koreanphotos.net/ related to Daves.)

You can take pictures anywhere you want here. Koreans are camera crazy, so if you take a picture of a girl around 25 years old, she has probably already taken 4,593 pictures of herself that day. The only place to be careful of is around the blue house and near the DMZ. I got in trouble in both places, told them I would delete my pictures but I didn't. Now I am thinking of selling them to North Korea. |

That site Koreanphotos.net will be live for the remainder of the year because I believe that I only paid for the domain name for 12 months. Lemon knows for sure, he's the admin. |

When's the next Dave's photo contest? I've taken thousands of photos but, as luck would have it, I took my two best Asian photos in Korea in the last 6 months. |

Over at Lost Seouls, James relates the following story about unwanted snaps.

Scroll down to July 4th.
In my experience, what you do is take out your camera, and make the "Is this okay?" gestures. I find that for the most part, folks are fine with it. If you get waved off, don't take a shot. It's not only rude, but you can read for yourself what can happen to you at the link above.
Avoid the pretty girls, and young couples. The pretty girls tend to be pretty neurotic about their image, and may not supposed to be where they are anyway. But you never know, you may be lucky. And the young couples may not be each other's partners, if you know what I mean.
Metropolitician struggles with this dilemma constantly, and his tactic is to sneak his images. That sort of bothers me because it smacks of voyeurism.
Guy takes some nice shots tho...
Other than that, have fun shooting.
