Thanks for posting the link.

Wow! That was a fantastic speech. Wade Davis must have some truly amazing experiences under his belt. I particularly liked the part about the how many understand the global intolerance of genocide but the same does not apply to 'ethnocide' to the point where assimilating a minority culture is often put down as positive development strategy, a worrying and all too real predicament for so many smaller cultures.

Humorous too, '*beep* knife' had me in stitches.

What I find interesting is how many indeginous tribes have a completely different take on what reality is.

It makes me want to visit the jungles of Borneo, the mountains of Tibet, the tundra of Nunavut, or the desserts of Australia and explore this idea more before these people are completely wiped out.

Sure, the South American tribe with the 'older brother's' who go through a 15 year rite of passage in complete darkness before seeing their first sunrise at age 18; I can't fathom what that take on reality must be like.

I had to chuckle about the part where the five missionaries dropped in to the Amazonian tribe in 1953 and gave them photographs and were speared as the tribe-folk believed the photos were the calling card of the devil. The tribe also mentioned that there were only two cases they could recall of natural death because most people were killed by spearing. One man died because of old age so they speared him anyway Laughing

I haven't had time to watch this video, but there are lots of TED talks on youtube or google video and they're all amazing.

My favorite one is about creativity and eduction, by Ken Robinson

I graduated in Anthropology and was especially interested in his field,
ethnopharmacology. Yes, great "idea" man.

I also love Ken Robinson for the same reason. I started a thread on that video in the teaching forum but it died quickly (actually never got out of the water...) But it is a hoot, a great 22 minutes. I have it on my eflclassroom site, along with other educational videos and podcasts.....
