So basically, in the classroom there are 2 responses that i hate, just because (or Guenyang) or don't know (muliyo). basically, both expressions 95% of the time are a cop out so students don't have to study. With my middle school classes if they say this and I think it is inappropriate I will make them copy out a page of the English dictionary. Elemetary school kids get 3 warnings and then it is no stickers.
Anyway which is more annoying or is there another stock standard phrase that really gets to you??

What about from administration, or from a student who has a pathetic excuse for having missed 12 weeks of classes:
"please understand me"

I want to say "yes I understand what you are saying, but I don't sympathise or agree, and I am not going to do what you want me to do"

how about, 'so?'.
or muttering/whispering in korean and when asked what they said it's, 'nothing', 'nevermind'.
or the ever helpful, 'time to go'(half way through class), lol

on the flip side i like hearing
'nehhh' (yes, sounding like a baahing, obedient sheep, especially cute baaaahed by girls)
or 'teacher'. i like when they call me teacher. great having a role and being addressed like that, especially in their enthusiastic kid voices.
sound of the class yukking it up, everyone getting along like a comedy routine
the chortle kindergarten age kids have. a laugh delighting in the execution of a laugh. watery sound, bird-like.

My 1st graders have started saying 'Goodbye!' half way through class. I think they figured out that when they say goodbye, the magical teaching monkey from far off lands leaves. So maybe, just maybe, if they say goodbye ten minutes early, he will leave.

And why do these little rug rats say 'yesir' for yes? Seriously! I always say to them 'I'm not a sir, I'm a Ms..

And why do they say pageee and collegee and ...? The e is silent, darn it.

P.S. The 'yesir' might come from hearing those U.S. army guys talk. If these munchkins keep saying 'yesir' I'll make them get down on the ground and give me fifty.

I dislike complaints about games. They want to play a game and that's no problem, but then they moan about the five different games you suggest to play. And you ask them to choose and they say "anything" or else they can't choose, they can't think of anything. They're bored with everything and nothing will entertain them. "Jae mee up da" is probably the comment I hate most.

A: Nothing special.

Q: How was your weekend?
A: Nothing special.

Nothing special must be a popular Korean answer because I get it constantly from my adults. This phrase is so irritating to me, especially when it doesn't fit the grammar of the question, that I've banned its use in my classes as an answer.

I mock my students every time they say that.

Or in free talking class:
Me: "What do you think of this topic?"
Student One: "it's good."

That's all the student will say. AFter a couple minutes silence...
Me: "What's your opinion, student 2?"
Student 2: "me too." or "same".

Ugh.
