i'm a woman from the usa. 28 years old. treatment of foreign women? a typical korean man's persepective of a woman of any race is different than a typical american/canadian guy. if i were to date a typical korean man, it would be like going back 50 years in the states. equality doesn't really exist. i've had VERY little experience talking with korean men, because we rarely approach each other. i just joined a gym, where i have had some of my first conversations with korean men. even my korean girlfriends say that korean men like submissive, pretty, girly girls. so if you are confident, outspoken and independent ....good luck.
AND,..old korean men in seoul, pushed me to cut in front of me in lines.

It's not a bad place. You hear lots about Korean being very safe, but women still have to keep their guard up to an extent. ( no different than anywhere) There are a few horror stories, but no more than what you'd find anywhere else I think

Dating wise, it takes a while to find your groove, but it's not as bad as all that. I've got lots of female friends married to k-guys and none of them are anywhere near submissive.

As for Loniponi's comment about old Korean men. That's not a gender thing or even an age thing, just an "I don't know you" thing.

I never noticed male co workers getting preferential treatment, or had trouble makiing friends, at all. I had to dress a little conservatively ( no tanktops) and deal with being asked if I were Russian, the guys had to deal with being mistaken for American GIs

I think foreign women tend to get less shit/bring less shit down upon them. Some of the stuff these men write about--fights and getting spit at and things like that...I've never experienced it and neither have any of my female friends. You won't get mistaken for military as much. Nobody thinks you're here to steal "their" women.

(Actually, scratch that. I know a very fat, very unhappy, very alcoholic woman--from a country starting with C--will basically lives in Itaewon. She's gotten into a few bar fights with the "skinny Korean bitches.")

As for dating here...many of the Western men act like jealous dogs with bones. Many Western men here will date Korean women and bitch about the Koreans that don't like it; the minute a Western women starts dating a Korean man the Western men start ragging on her about it. Korean men are pussies, they'll cheat, you must like small dicks, etc. "I don't want the bone, but dammit, other dog can't have it either!"

Most Korean men won't give you the time of day, but the ones who will aren't usually traditional, so they're worth a shot. I do have experience being friends with Korean men (language partners, taekwondo, etc) and they are great. I think too many Westerns (men and women) base their experience with Korean men on their boss, coworkers, and ajosshis. Korean men can be really awesome (in whatever context).

Sexism is worse here than where I'm from, but the degree to which I've been helped BECAUSE I AM FEMALE is greater, too.

I feel much much much safer walking around here at night than I ever did back home.

"Most" is just so much better I think you've managed to deflect any question about you having issues, son.

Of course I'm a nice 'gege'. They lie about what I say, and then take it out of context. Very Happy

And honestly, most foreigners that I talk to that like Korean girls have the same feelings; they should be submissive and pretty. I don't think it's a cultural thing, just a personality thing. Not all foreigners or all Koreans, not all blacks or all Jews.

I mean my jaw dropped the first time I heard from a foreigner that he had never been to bed with a boring K-girl. It has to be a matter of preference.
