If you book your tickets through a travel agent, they will do it for you. If you book independently, you have to contact the chinese consulate/embassy yourself. The cost depends on your nationality. If you are booking for this summer, you'd better do it quickly.
We used kangsantravel.com |

The travel agent that handles your tickets can get it for you.
The visa cost will vary depending on where you are from.
4 day service = 64k for Americans, 35k for everyone else.
2 day service = 88k for Americans 59k for everyone else.
same day service (not available from an agent) 99k for Americans and 70k for eveyone else.
For those going to the Chinese consulate (visa section - this was where I went last year), it used to be on the 9th floor of the Kyobo building at Kwanghwamun station (purple line) and only open 9:30-11:30am daily for visa service.
I have been told (unconfirmed) that they have since moved to somewhere in Meyongdong but I don't know where. Perhaps google can find it?

Ok I've looked around the net i'm assuming its still in the Kyobo building, however it is only open monday-friday from 930-1130am? I work at this time will they let someone else hand in my passport? Or can I mail it to them? Suggestions? |

A lot ot travel agents will process the visa for you even if you haven't bought your tickets or trip through them. Especially helpful for people not in Seoul or Busan, as it saves the travelling back and forth. As far as I know, none of them charge exorbitant fees, and most of them will only charge whatever registered mail costs. |

I was going to get my Chinese visa through a local travel agent. They wanted to charge me 100.00 dollars, because they told me that for foreigners the price is higher. After spending an hour with them, they still didn't know how to apply for a Chinese visa for me.
So I just changed my travel plans and get my visa in Hong Kong. |

I'm curious, what travel agents did you try? Because I've had two different travel agents do it for me, and they never charged anything like that, and knew exactly what to do. And one of those was a rush visa, passport sent off and back within about 5 days. |

It was a local travel agent in my town. It is cool now, because the airline changed my fligt plan for nothing. Plus, it also saved me a lot of money with me getting my visa in Hong Kong now.
I was going to fly to Guangzhou for a few day and then I was going to Hong Kong, Macau, and the back to Guangzhou.
How I can meet my wife in Hong Kong and go visit Macau over the weekend. Then on Monday go back to Hong Kong to get my Chinese visa while we explore some of the islands around Hong KOng. |

I wanted to travel to China when I leave here in December. My plan was to travel south and then visit Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand. Will I have trouble obtaining a visa as I don't have a return ticket? I don't know if I will need to book a hotel before I go or whether I can simply find a cheap hotel when I'm there. |
