I will be taking my summer vacation in a few weeks time and the missus is going to still be here.

She wants to 'see Korea'.

What should she see? I have absolutely no idea what to do or where to go. I have read through websites, travel books and blogs. I have no idea what to do. Most of it doesn't really interest me, I don't have a particular interest in Korean history. However I will grin and bare it for her.

Is there enough to do in Seoul to stay in a cheapish hotel (50k a night or so) and look at things there?

Are any of the islands off the north-west worthwhile visiting? I've read about one that is 4 hours or so boat ride away.

I don't want to end up sitting on buses or trains for hours on end just to go somewhere for one day.
