TORONTO The World Sikh Organization has launched a lawsuit against the CBC, a reporter and a Liberal MP, alleging that a documentary exploring Sikh extremism has damaged the community's reputation.
The CBC documentary Samosa Politics by reporter Terry Milewski aired June 28 and investigated how Canadian politicians court extremist groups to secure voters.
The Sikh organization's lawyer, James Morton, says the lawsuit deals with defamation, libel and slander, and seeks $110-million in damages.
Gian Singh Sandhu of the group's Canadian chapter says the documentary linked the Sikh organization to terrorism and contained many false statements.
Mr. Sandhu says MP Ujjal Dosanjh was included in the lawsuit for allegedly linking the organization to terrorist activity during an interview featured in the documentary.
CBC spokesman Jeff Keay was unaware of the lawsuit, but says the public broadcaster is standing behind its story. |
