|
|
Hey, I recently moved to Haebangchon and have a few questions about the area for those who are familiar with it:
1. Is there a short cut to get to the main Itaewon strip? I've been walking the main roads (past the Lexus dealership and Foreign Book store etc) but it seems like there could be a faster way?
2. I want to buy a bike (bicycle). Is there a place to buy one in the neighbourhood?
3. Where is the best place to get groceries?
4. For those who live in the area, do you find it is safe?
Thank you so much for any info!! |

1. Not unless you like walking up hills.
2. Not sure, but I got my last bike from Lotte Mart at Seoul Station, and there are two bike shops between Samgakji and the Yongsan area.
3. There's one where the road going through Haebangchon turns left to go up the hill. I mean the big road.
4. Yes. |

grocery shopping can be done pretty cheaply at the Uri Mart, (follow main Haebangchon road towards Namsan, find it in the basement on corner just before the convenience store. Do Not shop at the Kobawoo corner shop one b,lock before New Phillies unless you want to put up with extremely rude customer service and EXORBITANT prices - fucken criminals! there's a small supermarket just past Phillies and the ATM which is also very reasonable for many things. |

I always go to E-Mart at the Yongsan I-Park mall for groceries. I usually get a taxi for about 3000 won to Sinyongsan station, and that way I get to walk by the red light district there (hey, it's almost as integral to Korean culture as hanbok, and whenever I walk by a hanbok store I always look in the windows there too). |

Yeah, I could totally go for the BJ/Papa John's/shopping combo. Everything you need, all in one convenient location. |

If you want to pay, California Fitness in Myeongdong is only an 8-minute bus ride away... |

Another thing to note about Haybanchin is that it is home to an awesome little rag called Zine Magazine. If you can find it, treasure it! |

Hey, I said I was window shopping. In this case I'm satisfied with observing, rather than participating in Korean culture.
Gyms? I go to Samwon Nautalis Fitness Club and it's pretty good. Go up the Joong Ang Kyeong Ri Dan (? The place with assault rifle-armed soldiers just past the underground crossing). It's on your right. If you keep going up you'll get to the Hyatt (don't go that far; the gym is much closer).
But Myeongdong California is better. More expensive though, unless you pay for a year all at once. |
