I want to wait until the beginning of 2008 to head over to korea - I'm going to take a celta class, save up a bit of money, see some friends, etc.

Anyway, I want to be in a seoul public school (mid or elem), but I am worried that 1.) I won't be able to find a seoul public job mid-year or 2.) the avail. jobs will be less than desirable (as in, they had already run some teacher off mid-contract).

Advice on whether there will be good job openings around jan or feb 2008 or not?

thanks for any help

The hiring always goes in waves every 2 months. Generally, Jan and Feb is the best time to apply so that you can get started in March, the day when all the schools start their new school year.

Ya, ya, ya you're fine at that time. All the recruiters will be posting in Dec./Jan. plus there will be public school jobs all year round as some places can fill positions OR schools and/or the Native teacher suck and they quit or get fired. Relax. There will be a job for you one way or the other.

If there is a particular area you want to teach in, its best to tell the hiring agency/body that you want to teach in that area. They will work with you and keep that position available for you to take.

From my experience, there's always an overabundance of jobs in Korea, any time of the year.

March 2 is the START of the new school year in Korea. Aug/Sept is the mid term start after the summer break.

There will be lots of jobs. My guess is that about 40% of the turnover for public schools is in Feb. (GPOE alone is estimating that they will need 400 new/replacement teachers next FEB.) and 50% in July/Aug and the remainder scattered over the school year.

I expect similar numbers for the ETIS and EPIK programs. Additionally you could probably expect another 1000 more as private hires for public schools outside the main 3 programs.

You can easily add another 2000 openings per MONTH - year round in the hakwon industry.

..

SMOE will start the hiring process in December for jobs that start in late Feb.
