I've been thinking what i will do when someone takes it upon themselves to verbally abuse my girlfriend and i when we walk down the street. (It will happen someday.)

Knowing i can't 'stick the heid' in them i've been thinking that, if i'm quick enough, i could get a wee movie clip of the abuser and post it on the web.

Korean's might play it down but if there are enough of these clips then someone somewhere might take notice.

Just a thought.

Probably when it happens you won't react quickly enough. Be prepared to spend two years walking around with one hand in your pocket on your videophone, waiting.

Yeah i was thinking that, but if you're quick enough then you might be able to do it.

Also have any foreigners been getting abuse but seen other foreigners walk by and not help. If that happens then those people are pretty low. Why not walk up and ask "What's up?"

Even if you did that, I don't think it would change anything.

Korea is about 40 years behind its neighbors in race relations.

The confucian culture just makes things worse because it gives old men a free pass to be as poor mannered and abusive as they want.

Don't expect things to change quickly here.

Come on Dev, every little helps.

I'd rather do something and know i tried, than do nothing and start greeting everytime something bad happens.

'Greeting' in Scottish slang means crying.

This thread is stupid, considering the title i would have though something would have happened.

Maybe you should just change the title to 'what would i do if one day I maybe run into one abusive korean'.... The chances of which are as high as someone abusing a white girls non white boyfriend in Scotland. I hear there are stupid drunk guys there as well.

I just think that you wanted to tell everyone that you have a korean girlfriend. Well done I'm sure its because you are very handsome.

Don't get your knickers in a twist Safeblad (if that is your real name.)

I'll call my threads whatever i like. If you don't like them don't reply.

Have you ever been to Scotland? I've lived there all my life and on the occasions i've heard anything racist people have always spoken up. The Government is also running an anti-racism programme.

Or maybe you're just jealous. Are you still seeing Pam and her five sisters? Wink

I'm not going to reply to any further posts from you because i have better things to do.

Goodbye.

There's a good chance it'll happen though.

I'm just saying this...picture some korean guy walking round some estate in Scotland with a good looking Scottish girl, i think its highly likely he would come in for some abuse. Mind you, probably better that than a catholic boy seeing a protestant girl or vice versa.

I think it is a good idea, if it does happen video tape it and then the people at dave's esl can spread it like wildfire in the west. The more people know what happens to us here the sooner it will change. Just think if koreans are treated the same way they treat us in North America, England, Aussie and NZ. And they understand why they will change sooner then later.

Get a life.

Christ you must have more important things to worry about other than what potentially might happen.

Shaun...a wildfire in the West??

What do you put in your coffee man...

I mean come on. Do you think people will actually care back home that some westerners get insulted on the rare occasion here in Korea?

The idea of the OP has merit but then again it might mean he will be walking around looking for it to happen which of course will only increase the chance that it will happen because if you look hard enough for something, chances are you will find it or even provoke it.

Anyway, hope it works out for the OP.

I am married to a Korean woman and have lived here since 1997 (married since 1999). I have had one bad experience when walking around with my wife. That was a few years ago when an old man spit near my foot as we walked by him and snickered. I saw him a ways off staring in disaproval of us. We moved away a bit so as not to pass near him. He did his thing, we walked on by and let him be in his little pathetic racism filled world. He was in our lives all of a few seconds....why bother with such morons anyway?

Oh, you just wait, Homer. Once the New York Times finds out about the tragic atrocities we face each day here, along with our slave-like working conditions, Karl Rove will have nothing more to worry about!
