How about that!
In a thread on here about paying to work in South Korea by my good friend Italian Canuck. I came across a website by www.realgap.co.uk who were running 1 year placement trips to Korea that paid 1.6 million a won month (not includng rent) at a cost of 1399.

So I decided to write to them to let them know their silly little scam was up.

To whom it may concern,
I have just seen your advertisment on your website about the South korea placements and I would to make a complaint.
http://www.realgap.co.uk/Paid%20teaching%20programme%20in%20Korea
I have got a 2.2 million won a month position at a school as a recent graduate with no experience. The package I get is as follows.
1) Cost of flights reimbursed after successful placement completion
2) Airport transfer
3) Free Accommodation
4) Assistance with visa process
5) Orientation
6) Language classes
7)12 days paid vacation
Assistance throughout placement
And I'm not paying a paying a penny.
From what I can see, your customers are paying 1399 for a two week language and cultural course. Not only do you not offer a flight out there with the return reimbursed after completion of contract. But you offer 10 days holiday (instead of the 12) and 1.6 million won a month, if you can find me ONE Korean job vacancy on any site or recruiting agency that is offering a salary that low for a 22 hour teaching week, I would like to see it.
I think personally you are taking a cut of the teachers salary in the schools you secure placements with, you bunch of devious rip off merchants. Your advert for placements in South Korea must be the biggest con of all time and I'm sure trading standards in the UK would be very interested in your practices.
Anyway, I'll get contacting trading standards right away, I'm sure they will be interested in this!
Cheers,
Carlos
And this is the reply I got back this afternoon.
Dear Carlos.
Thank you for your email. The programme that you refer to has actually recently become temporarily unavailable and our IT team are in the process of making a series of amendments to the website.
Kind regards, Lauren
The programme became unavailable as of this afternoon!
Hahahaha, maybe the amendments include a proper wage, free accomodation and a flight out there as is standard. If somone is mug enough to pay 1399 for a two week orientation and a look round a kimchi factory then thats their problem but I proclaim victory! |
