I've read that there are still a few shamans in korea, usually at the back of budhist temples. is this true? would it be possible to go and get some sort of blessing even though i don't speak korean (i'm not a shamanist, but it would be pretty cool) |

A few? You mean 300,000? That's how many there are.
The Korea Herald did a report on them a few weeks ago. The Marmot's Hole had it up on the site, search for it online and read about the Shamans. |

Oh, for sure they exist. And it's DEFINITELY worth the experience.
I lucked out and met a k-gal with a connection. She took me.
Very lively, noisy rituals. We even spent the night in the temple with the shaman and her assistant!
Way cool, but remember they do expect monetary "donations."
This is a good read, for sure. I expected denouncement. Nope.

I like Shamanists. All that groovy dead fish stuff, pig heads with money in the mouth, makkoli on the tires of your new car and you never heard of one going to Afghanistan in defiance of a government warning, shoving their faith down other peoples' necks, getting kidnapped and then begging for the government to save them, let alone strapping an explosive vest to their chest and detonating it in a crowded marketplace full of women and kids. |
