It's curious YBM/ECC are advertising on the jobs page given all the negative posts about them on this site.

Just a thought

Well, I think the kind of folks that would work at YBM/ECC fall into two camps: total newbies that might not know enough to do a search in the job discussion forum, and experienced folk that go in with eyes open about the potential problem.

I worked for Wonderland my first time in Korea. Maybe it doesn't have as bad a rep as YBM, but it is still thought to be pretty bad...but honestly, overall, I had a good experience of it...and there ARE benefits to working at the chain schools, though not the same things I would prefer in a job.

For example I was never supposed to even GIVE homework, let alone check it and score it. The grade reporting was a joke -- we were NOT supposed to accurately describe student progress, we were told to use vague platitudes and make encouraging sounds. I found this frustrating, others might find it liberating -- no homework to check and grade and record is drastically less prep/office work...which is a plus in some people's estimation....

One man's meat is another man's poison, I guess....

I cant say much about Korea cuz i havent been there..but im doing my research to get there next year..however,

I worked fro YBM/ELS in Toronto for three months and it was like a boot camp there.
I could go on forever about it..but basically teachers were made to compete against each other with no sense of 'working togehter'..certain Ontario labour laws were broken...staff was fired just becasue the director 'didnt like them'

I will say that.. i was hired as the MML (multi media lab) instructor but i was put to work in all subjects and when confronting the AD he said all teachers work all subjects...$hit!

Hence to this day, even ELS/YBM is one of the most well known schools I am weary to work for them every again either in Vancouver or Korea.
