Ignore the thread title. I'm not sure what it means. Sounded funny when it popped into my head.

I've whipped out Occam's razor and reduced the question of our military involvement in the M.E to a simple hypothetical.

It seems to me this hypothetical should be a decisive factor in whether or not we withdraw from or aggressively engage that part of the world.

Feel free to bring in your deconstructionist wrecking balls and critical theorist jackhammers to have at this idea as I haven't fully convinced myself yet.

Kinda two different things going on here itt. One you have a hypothetical about what to do now, and two, you have what we should do in the future. You've set it up so that one is contingent on the other but that's not so.

The important thing is why would they click, if they would (I would say, based on what I've heard thru the media and not much more, they would). Would they have done so 50 years ago? What are the factors that have caused them to hate the West, if that's truly the case? Would continuing to wage war in Iraq enrage them more and cause a higher percentage of clickers or is Islam and not US foreign policy towards the Middle East the factor? What if withdrawing and adopting an isolationist's stance would reduce aggression towards the US from other countries?

So it could be that they would choose to destroy us, yet withdrawing would be safer for us in the end.

I think it's moot whether or not it stems from islamic indoctrination or us bringing it on ourselves. WMD proliferation and transnational jihad mean we can't afford to wait and hope that their future generations will feel less blow-yourself-upsy.
