So, has anyone visited North Korea? Americans can't visit there most of the time, but North Korea does offer tourist visas to Americans occasionally and this August through October is one of those times, last I checked. I'm thinking about going.
I know that the only way a foreigner can visit there is on a (very) guided tour which basically consists of various monuments to Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il, and that I won't get to actually see the country for what it is or get any glimpse of life there, but I think it may be interesting anyway.
Just curious if anyone has been there and can give me advice. Any trouble leaving? I imagine that there is probably a huge rigamarole to get out of the country if not so much in... |

Well, the first thing that comes to mind is the ridiculous cost. Last I checked it was something like 2,000 USD for a 3-day trip.
Second, a friend of mine has been signed up for the trips three times only to have them canceled on him each time at the last moment (2-3 days before) due to weather conditions or changes in policy.
Unfortunately, it seems like the trips for US citizens are all booked up for this fall already. Check out this link: http://www.koryogroup.com/tours/index-us.html
Good luck! I'm dying to go myself, just not prepared to shell out that cash. |
