Would the Korean gov allow this to happen?

http://joongangdaily.joins.com/article/view.asp?aid=2878028

"Samsung Electronics Co., the worlds largest producer of liquid crystal display panels, suffered a number of disasters yesterday as it posted its smallest profit in four years and speculation spread that U.S. investor Carl Icahn is set to make a hostile takeover bid on the company. "

Americans already own 49% of it.

Foreign takeover? Highly unlikely. no foreign companies can be bothered doing that in Korea anymore due to the xenophobic practises here. You just can't win. Take Lone Star for example.

SamDung has had upwards of 65% foreign investment. A huge proportion of it's R&D is done by Russian, Indian and Pakistani post-docs (not counting the stuff the company simply rips off from other mutlinationals, of course).

Yeah, like the Blackjack which was a direct rip-off of the RIM Blackberry.

Samsung Electronics Co is already a foreign company. About 5-6 years ago a UK/ Irish investment firm took over ownership and now they are ready to sell. Most of the Electronics Division assets have been moved to the States. Carl Icahn is looking to buy out the company, lock, stock and barrel.
UK Investment firm- 19%
Mr. Lee Samsung Chairman- 15%
US/ European investment companies 47%
Other small private investors- 19%
I did 17 years with the Electronics Division here and in the States.

Korea is often referred to as "The Republic of Samsung."
