|
|
I'm heading over for two years - I know I want to teach for 2 years.
I'm going to downtwon Seoul.
Packing space is always limited but my Father insists that I leave room for one business suit, bring two nice shirts, 2 ties, belt, and one set of formal shoes. He says even roll the suit to save space and press and dry clean it there. I think he may be on crack and would rather pack other things and save that space. He assures me that sometime somewhere something will come up where I will kick myself because I can't go since I need something beyond even Khaki pants and a blazer - where I need to be truly dressed up. He laugh's that it will probably be to get some girl. (he think's motivating me with the thought of a missed opportunity to getlaid will work. Damn him for being right - at least right enough to post and ask this question).
So any opinions? Do I take the suit or will I not need the suit? |

I won't need it day to day for working no.
I meant more has anyone who has been in Korea awhile had an occassion where they went "damn I wish I had a suit" or "I am glad I brought my suit"? |

Can't suits be bought there quite reasonably?
Even made to measure for the outsize 'football' player builds?

How much are we talking?
Good to know though. If it really is reasonable and can be done quickly enough then I can skip the suit and just have one made if I ever really need it. |

Don't take my word for it - I was asking because I'd heard you could get this kind of stuff easily there....
Maybe do a search?

YOu most likely won't have a reason to wear a suit, but you never know. I brought a suit never really expecting to wear it. In the first few weeks back i was invited to a wedding. I asked the guy what I should wear and he said a suit if I have one. |

There will be times where you'll have to get all dressed up. Suits are cheapish and tailor made here. No sweat.
Personally I hate suits and ties and will bend over backwards to avoid situations where I have to wear them.
And I dont see why I cant wear my "what?" tee to a wedding. It's black. Black is formal. |

Hell yeah!
Suits here can be made for under W200,000 (approx. $200). They're usually 'wrinkle-pree'- and they truly are. I packed mine up for a trip last year and when i took them out of the suitcase they were wrinkled up like a raisin. I left'em in the closet for a day, thinking I'd take them to a drycleaner later, but when I hauled them out, they were as good as new. |

You won't need a suit for work.....
However, I brought one and iot has come in very handy. In the last 20 months I have been to 6 weddings. We work with people in an age group that are gearing up for marriage so you'll be surprised how many weddings you go to. Bring one, I can guarantee you will pick up a lot easier, I'm not sure if it is me but Korean girls love guys in suits. It potrays a money(ha ha ha) quality and with the females here being so superfficial, a good-looking well-dressed, western, sugar daddy would be a dream for them. Don't take the last sentance to seriuosly guys.
Has anyone esle found that about weddings here?? There seems to be a lot of them. |

If you are teaching adults, certainly you need a suit if you want to get on and make a good impression to your students. You're starting with the right attitude, keep it there. |

weddings are possibly the only time you'll need a suit in korea. workwise, you can't go wrong with a smart shirt/ pair of pants, maybe a tie, if you feel like impressing the korean girl co-teacher. |

If you happen to have the chance to interview for a better job, having a suit couldn't hurt. |

A suit? NEVER. It would clash with my mullet and 6 day growth. |
