I'm planning on working for Seoul public school system come next March, and from what I can glean, you get 14 days "vacation". It seems that public teachers are often required to be on school grounds or teaching some kind of camp during these periods, which sounds like a bit of a drag.

I've noticed there's a few people who use these topics to brag about how much vacation they have, but I'd like some practical info. Can I stipulate that I get real vacation during contract signing period, or are ETIS contracts for SMOE pretty hard and fast in regards to vacation time? If this is the case, can I skirt ETIS and go directly to a SMOE public if I'm just some dude applying from the States? Or is this an advantage enjoyed by those already in RoK?

Teachers are not required to be on school grounds or teaching camp during their 14 days of vacation ... What who have posted about that have been talking about is the other days when no students are at school because the actual summer and winter vacations last for more than 7 days each ... You will get actual vacation days ... but you may not get more than the actual contract vacation days ... Anything extra is a bonus rather than an entitlement
