Some Native English teachers have cars in Korea. Some choose to abandon the car when they leave. I thought about this, but I'd like to have the option of coming back one day and I wouldn't want that hanging over my head. I found a company that makes it easier. Actually, my co-worker found it.

Have a Korea friend call:
Call 080-8585-010

They will pick up the car, dispose of it, and cancel the registration for you. They will fax you the canceled registration form which you then need to fax to your insurance company so they can cancel your insurance and issue a partial refund. The disposal company will also give you 150,000 won if there are no outstanding tickets on the car.

I couldn't of done any of this without my coworkers help. You'll probably need some help too. I just thought I'd pass along the number. It helps to know your options.

hanging over your head? What kind of regulations make abandoning a car a crime with long-term consequences?

If you have the title to the car you can check the penalties on the back of that paper. Its a couple thousand dollar fine and prison time.
