I'm trying to get my internet connection up to speed. It used to be much faster.
Currently I am running:
*2 software firewalls, Windows SP2 Firewall and Sygate. I have read conflicting accounts... some said that this can cause system instability and slow downloads, others have said that the Windows Firewall automatically shuts down with the presence of 3rd party one... anyone on here know for certain.
*Peerguardian, does this count as another firewall, could it be causing more conflicts with the other two listed above?
*AVG
*AVAST, I think this program has some firewallish features...
So is this stuff too much? What would you recommend I do away with?

Now the router... this thing really pisses me off.
It should display a sort of log in page where I can configure it and set up port forwarding. On my PC it does not on my girlfriend's it does. None of the documentation is in English. I can muddle through a bit of the Korean with my dictionary handy but it is really tedious.
On her machine the log-in page happens after either the router or PC is restarted and IE is opened. Her home page is Naver but the router displays the router login page instead of Naver. It pisses her off because she has no idea what to do and couldn't be bothered to read the manual... (eventually she gets past the screen but forgets how she did it two days later... )
Anyway, she can get basic browsing and watch streaming videos so that's all she wants. I would like a faster connection for other reasons.
It's an "ipTIME q104". |
