My coteacher told me she got a letter from GEPIK saying that the after school Teacher's Class is mandatory. 2 hours a week.

She said the education office told her that all schools are required ot have that program. I knew that the class is at every school, but this is the first time that I've heard it was a mandatory course for all teachers.

What kind of school do you teach at? We don't have them at my high school, but it is written in my contract that I am required to do them.

It has to be within in your contracted work hours and if it's over and above your contracted hours you receive overtime for it. I don't have one at my school.

Go by the contract. My contract says I work 8:30-4:30 and teach 22 teaching-hours a week. If I teach 21 per week, they can require me to teach a class during school time for one hour. But they cannot make me stay past 4:30 or require me to teach more if I already teach 22 hours.

If you work more than your contracted hours or time, get overtime, or refuse to do it.

Doing the class isn't a problem for me. I actually like teaching the teachers because it'll give me a chance to get to know a few of them.

Maybe I'm just nitpicking but it just bothered me that they used the word "mandatory."

Also, the fact that it was a letter from the Education Office saying it was Mandatory and not just my school telling me this.

Overtime is voluntary and you cannot be forced to do overtime above your weekly hours.
