My sis is getting married in July and I plan on going over to RoK in February. I'm planning on working for the public school sytem.
Normally I would imagine July is not vacation time, but how feasible would it be for me to finagle July vacation time up front during contract negotations? |

After the 20th of July it would be negotiable and should not be too difficult. Before that, probably not likely.
You are putting the cart a long way in front of the horse if you won't be here till next Feb. It would be easier to give you an answer after Christmas when they have next years schedule outlined. |

Definitly tell htem before you sign anything that you MUST have this time off. We went home for two weeks in May/June this year for my brother-in-law's wedding. We told them upfront that this was a mandatory vaacation time for us, and they were fine with it. Of course, we aren't working with EPIK, so that gives us and our schools a lot more flexibility. Just ask. It doesn't hurt. Family is really important here, so I don't think its too much to ask. |

It's July 12, a year from now. If that doesn't fly with them, such is life. But I'll try for the "mandatory vacation" route and see if it flies. As noted it is quite some time away. We'll see. Thanks for advice yall. |

My contract finishes next year at the end of the first week of March.
My folks will be celibrating their Ruby anniversary on the 1st or the 10th or so of March.
I will be back for it. Poor old school is confused as to how this is possible since teaching starts the first week of March. Even with my contract completing then. I suppose it's a positive thing though that they are thinking that far ahead. |

Get it in writing. Don't just take their word for it. |

I did just that last week. I went home for 2 weeks during finals and a waste week with no problem. Now it is just a matter to see if they are going to pay me for those missed weeks. |
