|
|
I'll be teaching in Ulsan at the beginning of August. I read on ulsanweb.com that there is a flea market, but I wrote to the person and he hasn't gotten back to me. Do you know about it? How often it is?
So, here are my other shopping questions.
1. Does the Korean Wal-Mart have 'real' pillows? About how much are they?
2. How much are comforters for twin beds these days?
3. Is bringing my electric blanket a good idea?
4. How much are decent pillows these days?
5. How much is a simple VCR over there?
6. Best place to buy novels in English in Ulsan?
Other
1. My doctor here gives me samples of cholesterol medicine. Can I bring these, or should I put them in a prescription bottle?
2. What kind of movies are available on Skylife? (I love movies!)
3. What are the deposits for cable, telephone utilities?
4. Are we still allowed to send home only 60% of our salaries?
5. How long does it take for a letter mailed from Korea to get to the U.S.?
Well, I'll probably think of some more questions, but that's it for now.
Thanks very much for your help in advance! |

So, here are my other shopping questions.
1. Does the Korean Wal-Mart have 'real' pillows? About how much are they? We bought two down pillows at the local Emart(kind of like walmart)
2. How much are comforters for twin beds these days? if you are stuck on getting a comforter, then a lot. If you can make do with blankets, they're about 10,000won for one. We use two blankets in the winter.
3. Is bringing my electric blanket a good idea? No. You will have to convert/adapt the electricity. You can buy them here anyway
4. How much are decent pillows these days? I think ours were maybe 20 or 30,000 a piece
5. How much is a simple VCR over there? Check out the Buy/Sell/Trade forum for a good idea. Or the classifieds on pusanweb
6. Best place to buy novels in English in Ulsan? No idea. whatthebook.com, amazon.com

1. My doctor here gives me samples of cholesterol medicine. Can I bring these, or should I put them in a prescription bottle? Just put them in your carry on, and you will probably be OK
2. What kind of movies are available on Skylife? (I love movies!) all kinds. They aren't running censored commie moves over here if thats your question. Of course you could also go rent them at a video store.
3. What are the deposits for cable, telephone utilities? not sure
4. Are we still allowed to send home only 60% of our salaries? no, you can send home 100% of your salary if you can show paystubs to prove you earned it legally
5. How long does it take for a letter mailed from Korea to get to the U.S.? about 2 weeks
Well, I'll probably think of some more questions, but that's it for now.

Walmart is "opseyo" now. It's been converted to E-Mart. There aren't any pillows there, they only sell concrete blocks or bags of MnM's to lay your head on!
Just kidding. You'll find all your sleeping needs here, and maybe you'll enjoy the Korean style bedding your apartment might be set up with!
There are a couple of bookstores in Ulsan, one in Gyunguptop and another across the street from Lotte Hotel that have a limited selection of fiction and non-fiction. But, I think "What the Book" out of Seoul is awesome.
Simple VCRs are cheap, as are DVD players.
I have no idea about Skylife, and the range of movies to rent will depend on where you're living. The choices at my silly little country video shop suck! They love Segal, Van Damme, and straight-to-video selections.
I don't think there are any deposits for utilities.
I've gotten mail from the US in less than a week.
PM me if you want! |
