| The packaging is pretty slick. It should be a huge success. I think the price is, well, too pricey. However, the technologies incorporated in the phone are nothing ground breaking. Having spent 6 years in Japan, I know this phone is still behind the technology curve compared to the Japanese phones. Even Korean phones are quite far behind the Japanese. Oh, just looked at some more info on the phone geez, they have their heads in the sand... First ever this, best ever that. What a crick of cr@p. Their IS a world of cell technology outside the US... |

Isn't the battery supposed to last something like no more than 6 or 7 hours?  If so, you'd have to keep recharging your battery everywhere or carry a supply of spare ones with you... not so convenient. |

Can't carry spare batteries because the battery is internal. |

There are a bunch of phones that can do what the iPhone can, but there isn't ONE phone that can do everything the iPhone can do.
I think the iPhone is going to make a huge impact on the industry. Of course, I think it'll go the way of the Motorola RAZR. Now everyone has or had a RAZR. It'll be the same with the iPhone. Give it 2-3 years, and everyone will have one.
Knowing Apple, they'll release a Gen2 iPhone VERY soon after the first that will be thinner, longer battery, more storage, and less buggy. Personally, I want an iPhone but I will wait for the Gen2 iPhones.
$600 is steep right now. However, the Motorola RAZR's were around $500-$600 when they first came out. Now people practically give those away. |

The difference between the RAZR and the iPhone is that the RAZR was simply about design, but the iPhone pretty much delivers on every function you can imagine. It's much more of a practical purchase than buying cool looking phone that does jack *beep*. |

The interface looks really nice and functionality is great. But short battery life and 600 bucks means I won't get one.
And, no. It's not revolutionary. It just packs a lot of existing features into one package. |

The revolutionary aspect is the UI. A lot of critics say that the iPhone is just taking things already available and putting into a nice package. However, they are all in agreement that the User Interface is what sets it apart from all other competitors.
Also, it will bring smart phone technology to the masses. The Business Manager, Executive, or Gadget Geeks are no longer going to be the people that own smart phones.
$600 bucks is steep if you plan on buying the phone upfront. Its gonna be closer to $400 when you include a contract with the phone. Look at most camera/smart phones from Verizon Wireless, SprintPCS, Cingular, or NexTel. All of the smartphones/blackberries that have the same functionality as the iPhone are all in the $400+ range.
PDA/Smart Phones that are iPhone competitors:
AT&T Wireless
Palm Treo 750 - $550 new
Blackberry 8800 (refurbished) - $499
AT&T 8525 - $599
I agree with the limitations of the iPhone. Mainly with the battery.

If you use the video and MP3 function too long of ANY phone it won't have long battery life. Isn't that completely obvious?
If you you want to use it as primarily a phone and use the video/mp3 functions only when needed, the battery life is close to other phones with the same functions. |

| My Japanese phone is nearly 2 years old and can do everything the iphone can do and it has a VGA display, better camera, internal gyroscope (for real coold games like wii), facial recognition for security, internal GPS (which helps when using the startchart) and much much more... That being said, the memory on my Japanese phone doesn't come close to the 4 or 8GB offered by the iphone but it does have a mini sd (I'm using a 2GB mini sd now). The Japanese phones are just far and away the best phones in the world. |
