Yes. Don't know the official name but our school (and I'm assuming all public schools) will be closed, which reinforces the notion that having classes at all this week is a complete waste of time.
Thank god for movies and comfortable chairs. |

Yes.... and I found this out less than 5 minutes before I left this afternoon ... Still as I said at the time I would rather find this out late this afternoon than wonder why no one was there tomorrow ...
Just a simple by product of not being able to read Korean notes ... and being told that half of 2nd Class being out at Camp this week didn't mean any changes to what I would be teaching ...

They've got this rather unique invention in Korea. You see it has the days of the week on it...some of them are marked in red. They developed this invention because they needed something to track the 4 distinct seasons, which only occurs in this part of the world. |

I get the point .. which is a good one ... but I don't happen to have one of these magic Korean calenders .... Though I did notice the red day on another teachers calender ... after I had been told about it ... but I still didn't have the Korean to actually read what the day was for ... or who got the day off ... I have also learnt that not every holiday that we have from school is due to a National holiday ... And I guess I have also mistakenly expected that getting a no change answer to the the is there anything different / special this week question ... would mean that there were no holidays .... But I have also reached the point where it doesn't really suprise me ... and just go with the flow ... Including a quick working out of what I need to take home to get done what I had planned to work on tomorrow .. in getting ready for summer school next week ... Tomorrow happens to be one of my lightest teaching days ... And holiday or not there is work I need to do then ... to be ready ...

I'm with you Icicle. The only calendar I use is the one on the lower right hand corner of my desktop that tells me the date when I hover my mouse over it.
If not that, then its Google Calendar on my homepage. Neither of which has Korean holidays in bright red numbers.
Would it be THAT hard for my coteacher to lean over (her desk is right next to mine) and say "No school tomorrow. Holiday." Instead, I had to get that info from a friend that IMed me on my computer asking me what I was going to do.
Also, if my coteacher knows that classes are canceled for the day, it would be nice if she told me right when she finds out. Instead, I find out when I go to the classroom and see that no one is there. When I go back to my office my coteacher is like "No class." Thanks a lot Captain Obvious. |

And Thomas Crapper, the man who invented the toilet, is actually the love child of a tryst involving a Korean mother who fell overboard from a highly advanced Turtle Ship surveying the Cliffs of Dover. "Oh crap she fell off", and the rest is history. |
