| Absolute worst time to go. September gets more rainfall in Thailand than any other month. I went to Phuket a few years ago for Cheusok --- it rained nonstop. |

I was in Thailand during September in 2005 (for the entire month) and did not find the rain that bothersome. It rained almost everyday, although it didn't last for more than a few hours. Unlike Stu, we were on the west coast (Ko Sumui, Ko Phanyang) so maybe the weather patterns are different, I'm not entirely sure.

Thailand is good every single day. If you want to party go to Las Vegas.
Learn to appreciate the monsoon. The clouds are beautiful and the forest is lush and green. The animals go nuts with life. The rain is its own experience. I go during the rainy season for those reasons. |

In September, it rains less on the east coast. Especially the north east.
So, KohSamui up to Ko Chang, Koh Samet would be your best bets. |

If you decide to go, look into getting tickets now. It might already be too late. I tried to go to Thailand around this time last year, found it impossible, and was told to book my next Chuseok a year in advance!  |

That's because you went during the monsoon season. May to November on the Andaman side can get nasty. But I still go during that time because I, for me, it's not that bad. I like a little rain to cool things off.
In September, try Ko Samui / Ko Pha Ngan for dryer weather. |
