Seeing the photos of Korean protestors throw manure at U.S. beef inside a Lotte Mart really shocked me.
Not only was the act outrageous, but it should have you wonder about the safety of the Korean food supply.
What if someone were to actually poison the beef next time?
I wouldn't put it past these sick people who don't know how to protest in a civilized way. If they are not arrested and given harsh sentences, we may see worse acts of sabotage to come.
Security at department stores need to be "beefed up". Hell, they won't even let me bring bottled water onto the planes in this country. How did a bunch of farmers get buckets of sh*t into a supermarket? |

Simple. Half the stuff they sell at the shops here looks and smells worse. |

I get a mild case of food poisoning from Korean food on an average of 2-4 times a year |

Well they were tossing the same substance you are shoveling in this thread and in other threads Dev....
Except they do it for a cause and you do it because you need to feel superior.
Oh..and on topic: I get the odd stomach trouble from now and then here. Normal when eating in a foreign country eve after a long time. I too eat street vendor food sometimes and I have yet to be sick from it (knock on wood I suppose). |

I live off of Kim Chi and Kim Bap... so I think I'm safe. I order Kim Bap without meat too. |

I'd have to second this. More than I ever did back home anyway. Couple of times I was so violently ill I had to go to the hospital. Good times, good times. |

I've never had food poisoning from the sashimi I've eaten in Japan. I don't buy sashimi in Korea because it blows. If the Japanese don't eat the same raw fish Koreans eat, surely it's no good for me. |

Best to avoid raw crab here.
or you might end up with a virtually undetectable flatworm that quietly eats your insides out before its final metamorphosing climax of ritually disemboweling you unexpectedly one day.
Google Paragonimiasis. |

Been here 7 years, had mild food poisoning here once or twice in my first couple of years here but never since. Had it much more often back in New Zealand. I don't go near the chicken food stalls, but I do eat of a lot of 오뎅 when I go out drinking.
Korean food hygiene standards definately used to be worse than Western countries when I first came, but some major food scandals brought the issue to everyone's attention and standards have been raised. And there's a noticeable fear of tainted food from China here these days, exploited by Korean farmers for sure, but the concerns are genuine.
Just saw lots of reports about problems with Chinese products in America on CNN last week come to think of it. |

I've had food poisoning twice in 5 years here. I would still bet that if US health department inspectors inspected the restaurants/bars, etc in just Seoul alone, half of them would be shut down. Those people in my hometown are pretty strict. Even restaurants that get high reviews like 95, still are usually found in violation of health dept. standards. I could just see the looks on their faces if they came here and saw a dog running around in the kitchen while the workers peeled onions or saw workers sit food down on the floor. |
