Hi!
I know everyone does this but, I'm new, am going to South Korea at start of August to hong seong, in daecheon, can anybody give me any info about this place or let me know what to expect? Ive heard it close to seoul, but whats the transport like for getting there and back? And is anybody here near there?
Also just any general information would also be greatly recieved.

Emma, is it the New Brighton school you are going to be working for?
Do yourself a favor and check the schools that have been blacklisted. I know there are a couple of lists out there, but can't remember them offhand. I will look them up and PM to you. Good luck! As someone else said before, it would have been a good idea to check up on the school BEFORE you signed any contract. |

First of all, Hongseong is NOT in Daecheon - it's about half an hour away from there. Close to Seoul? By train it's about 2 hours 20 mins, by bus about 2 hours. If you're working in a public school here, it won't be too bad. Hagwon, I've no idea - some are ok, some aren't.
It's a small town...about 40,000 I think. Max of about 10 native English teachers. Downtown is typical of that of any small Korean town...full of Korean restaurants, and the odd pizza jaunt and Japanese restaurant. Western-style fast food consists of a Lotteria (Korean-style McDonalds). I've survived here for a year, but that's enough for me. I think a lot will depend on the kind of person you are and also the kind of people who will be here with you. |

Do you know how it's spelled in Korean? Because once city is Daecheon (대천), which is right next to the beach, and there's Daejeon (대전) is a relatively large city closer to Seoul, but not near the beach. |
