So my boss and a friend are telling me two different things. I trust both of them and can't seem to find an answer here anywhere so I thought I would ask.
I have been in Korea for 24 days now. I do not have a Visa, I am still on tourist stay. My friend says that Americans have only 30 days to stay and that I will be deprorted if I leave for Japan to get a Visa after that amount of time has expired, regardless if I have a visa issuance number. He says immigration really looks for this sort of thing.
Now my boss tells me that I have 90 days and she is just now applying for my visa issuance number. Transcripts from my school only showed up Monday. She says I will be going to Japan during our school break which is in the first week of August. This is well without of the 30 day range.
I've checked FAQs but the links I click do not work for me. Does any one know anything about this or know where I can find some information.
Tank you. |

If you're working without a visa, you're working illegally.
Did they stamp your passport? What's the date on the stamp? |

| the same thing happened to my friend and he got deported, your boss is ethier an idiot or a bastard you MUST leave the country before your 30 days is up and also you MUST NOT tell immigration that you worked in korea at all unitll the first date on your e2 working visa, this is where my friend got in trouble he told them he had been working before the date on his e2 and they deported him, and of course his employer didint help at all and actually fucked him out of pay |

My passport is stamped for June 23rd. I was told that I am legal to work because my visa is in the process of being applied for.
If I take a trip on my own to Jaapn before the 30 days what is the chance that immigration will question me. I would hate to get deported by trying no to get deported. |

| What I suggest is that before you reach 30th day, make a quick Fukuoka ferry trip and return the same day. That will extend your visa to 30 additional days. AND FIND ANOTHER JOB THAT WILL TAKE CARE OF E-2 VISA ISSUE ASAP. |

You should be able to make a quick trip down to immi and extend your tourist stamp to 90 days. That'll save you the trouble of going to Japan.
BUT...you are NOT allowed to work. Let me repeat that one. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO WORK!
It doesn't matter if the application is in, you do not have the VISA in your passport and therefore you cannot work.
Tell your "boss" he's an idiot and get the hell out of there. Stop working immediately.

| What will I need to tell immigration? should I tell them that I have found a job and am waiting to get a visa. Ofcourse I know not to tell them I have been working due to my ignorance. Will I need something from my school stating anything? .... this sucks. |

Pursuant to provisions in the Immigration Control Act, you cannot work until you have obtained status of sojurn. Period of sojurn is one (1) year in length for Status "E2." (E2 Visa)

1. Stop working.
2. Demand your stupid boss to send you to Fukuoka (Japan) trip on a ferry from Busan to extend your tourist visa for another 30 days. If your boss refuses, do it on your own and start looking for another.
3. If your going to look for another job, you must have your documents in order. What's your status on your E-2 visa application? Does your stupid boss has all of your original documents? If so, try to get them back ASAP.
4. If your going to not work for your stupid boss, don't let him know that until you get your pay. After you get your money, do a runner or give him/her 1 hour notice and say good-bye. |

Someone isn't smiling at Wonderland today.
I'm sure I'll really get some laughs now that everyone knows I took a job at Wonderland.
I must say I like the job though. Sword fighting class, field trips, and free lunch. Hope they'll throw in a Visa soon though. |

I have a gut feeling you will have problems with one (1) or more of the following below;
(1) Being paid one time
(2) Enrollment into the National Health Insurance Plan that's mandatory by law
(3) Pocketing deductions from your monthly salary for income tax, pension and medical insurance. |
