I noticed THE Burger King in Itaewon has been replaced with a Coffee Bean. Of course, long time residents will know:
1) A guy was stabbed to death in the washroom there 9 years ago. So Itaewon is the most dangerous place in Korea!
2) It's center of the universe as far as describing the location of anything in Itaewon. "Okay you know the Burger King? So go straight and then hang a right."
Loads of maps for restaurants in Itaewon all seem to use it as a landmark as well. It's going to require some reprints. |

Great pix and awesome thread.
IMO, it's really cool that someone would take the time to document this "change of overall vibe" for online posterity.
Good on ya, OP! |

If someone could post a shot of the old BK -- from a similar vantage point as in the OP -- this thread could even be considered... epic. |

I was going to post every time a store in Korea closed, but I thought it would be too stupid and trivial, perhaps too indicative of my lack of things to do. |

Are there other Burger Kings in Korea other than the one Itaewon? |

Of course...but among the expat community, it truly was THE Burger King. Burger King King, even. |

There is still a Burger King in Itaewon, the location has just changed. It is now in the KEB building, close to Nike Golf. I agree though about the landmark thing.... it was used not only for directions, but as a place to meet up with your friends. Easy to find. I think the new location was a bad choice though. Lots of people would be by the subway station, on their way home from a night out and think to themselves.... I could go for a whopper right now haha. Oh well. If you do need the King when in Itaewon, it's still there, just a bit of a walk now. |

Now meeting friends will be "where the Burger King used to be"
Directions will be "go straight and turn right from where the Burger King used to be.
You get the idea. But as time goes on and people come and go from Korea, fewer and fewer people will know where the the old location is.
PS OP: What happened to the pictures of the pretty ladies? I miss them. |

From what I see, lots of whiteys could benefit from more wandering and less burgers. |

Apparently not. Take a look at mindmetoo's pic of the map once more. It says BUGER King. Buger? Booger? On that note, glad it's gone! |
