My boss has agreed to give me a letter of release and a good reference if I stay until the end of September. The thing is that I want my boss to sign a letter of release well in advance so there can be no loopholes to dance through when this date arrives. I am sure that my boss will sign it in advance if I provide the form. Is there anywhere I can find a template for a letter of release? Also, is it legally binding?

It is good idea to have your boss sign the LOR in advance before the last day. There's been many instances where the boss will promise to give you LOR but at the end they wouldn't.

So printout the LOR and have your boss signed and seal in advance. Make sure to post date the date on the LOR.
