Hi!
I worked in Korea for a yr and 7 months almost 2 years ago (came back to do a masters and try London for a while) so anyway am thinking of going back because the stuff in brackets was so expensive.
I have been getting alot of calls and emails since posting my resume on daves and have 3 offers I have put tops for various reasons; Brighton English School, nowon Seoul l, KNC Hyjunjau, Mokdong, and Topia, near Hongdae.
Have any of you heard of any of these?
Also for someone with degree and MA in English and the experience (plus a few dribs and drabs elsewhere) what salary should I ask for now? im getting mostly offered 2.2 or 2.3,but also offered 2.1 for a school and 2.5 for another (the latter school is one I am not interested in though the money is good!) 2.2 or 2.3 ok?I dont know what the deal is there now.
Sorry, lots of questions,if any of you can answer even 1 would be great,
Thanks alot,
Dawn |

With your qualifications you should look for a university or public school position. If that's not practical because of the timing (wrong time of year or needing something right away) or not having any connections, then ask for no less than 2.3 million at a hagwon. The going rate at most starts at 2.1 for a BA and zero experience. Certain specialty hagwons, like those offering TOEFL prep, often pay more, as much as 3.0 per month. |

There are several threads on KnC here in the forums. I had an interview with the branch in Mokdong a couple of weeks ago and the director was uncooperative when it came to contacting a current teacher at the school. He would not give out an email address, said he would have a teacher call from the school (probably so he could listen to their answers), and told me that I was only allowed to ask one question over the phone. The director picked a time for the foreign teacher to call me, but I never heard back from anyone.
I'd pass on KnC Mokdong (and probably their other branches too). |

Yeah, pass on KNC Mokdong. You can find my story if you search my posts. I'll just say here that it's not a lot of money for the amount of work you do outside of your teaching hours. And if the director is still the same (Mark) then you can't trust him any farther than you can throw his girly butt. |
