|
|
I came over here without a functional US banking account, thinking that I'd get an online debit account fairly easily. Turns out that since a few years ago when I looked, it's not so obvious where, and easy to, get on basic online debit card that'll work for US purchases anymore.
So since I'd been reading here about the KEB and the Samsung credit cards, I asked one of my Korean co-teachers to call up Samsung for me. She did...and a nice lady came out to my high school in Namyangju and took an application from me. Pretty simple it was really.
Less than a week later I got my card. But......
I can't seem to get it to work for things like buying music online, domain name purchases from GoDaddy, etc. Is it something about the card or perhaps my computer or........what?
I've also got 3 or 4 small items that require payment being set up on a monthly autodraft.
On the subject of 'my computer'......it's just plain wierd. On the one hand I've heard that there is a virus out there that causes computers to not be able to access 'secure sites' (i.e. "https") which most payment sites are. On the other hand one of the tech support guys at GoDaddy.com told me that he hears frequetly that people from other countries have difficulty getting to their site and certain other US sites.
It's for that primary reason that I'm wanting to buy another laptop (and a PC...for my favorite PC game....C&C...Generals).
Also on the subject of computers.......how come is it that when i go to my blog site www.typepad.com it's in English yet when I go to my other blog site, www.blogger.com it's in Korean. This Korean on my computer is really bugging me! I can't believe the average ESL teacher over here like me has to put up with that. What's going on there and how can I get around it...especially on blogger?
But back to the Samsung card.........
Anybody use the Samsung card for online purchases?
I'm wondering if maybe I didn't fill out all the online form fields correctly. When we signed up, we used the school address....which I really haven't memorized yet. I don't remember what I put in the 'address' space on the online credit card purchase form. Maybe it wasn't correct and that's the reason my purchase didn't go through?
The card has a $1000 limit. That's all I wanted...planning on raising it later if/when I decide I need to.
And it also has the AMEX (American Express) logo. So I figured it would work easily and quickly. It didn't, so..........still trying to figure it out.
Keep dancing,

The problem is probably with the address. The billing address has to be written the same as it appears on your account.
I use my card online all the time.
Some sites require a Korean ID and will not accept my ARC number.

| I used my samsung card to purchase some software online the other day with no problems. I chose "American Express" as the card type (which is what the 'Big and Big' (and Konglishee) card is. |

| I use an HSBC online savings account debit card issued in the US for online purchases or payments. I opened the account from Korea on the internet. You can get the account by having a US address and then having the person at that address send you the card and pin number. |
