The new darling of the Left, Hugo Chavez of Venezuela, is once again showing his true colors.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070716/ap_on_re_la_am_ca/venezuela_catholic_church

Now he's tinkering with the constitution to allow himself greater executive powers and as the Catholic Church objects he's lashing out at them.

No surprise for those of us who know that a socialist leader in a developing country is always only two words away from being a fascist dictator.

So where are all of you Chavez lovers on this forum? Why aren't you rallying to his defense now? After all, isn't it a matter of ideological principle to support socialism wherever it emerges?

Time to come out of the woodwork and have your voice heard!

A question, then:

Is Chavez still the best choice for the Venezuelan people?

Hate to be the first one to point this out, but no one was rallying to him beforehand.

I'm certain that if you shut your hot air generator, and took a few deep breaths, you'd realize that "Not sharing my politics" is not the same thing as "Fully supports in everything I hate in the world. And I hate a lot of things in the world."

I was! I was going to! I went to the store and bought some chips and then I took out my phone and dialed a number and yelled into it "I'M COMING HOLD ON HUGO MAN. F*** CHENEY!" and then I ate the chips. I was going to get a flight and then I said "NO BLOOD FOR OIL" and...I don't know man. Bush is Hitler!

Me too! But I got a bit distracted hugging all the trees in my garden, saving whales from nasty Japanese fishermen, giving sickening and patronising smiles in the direction of any lovely ethnic looking people passing by, and being out on the high street flogging the latest edition of The Socialist Worker. In future please let me know ahead of time so that I may oblige with such rallying more promptly. Cheers!

Steve's an attention *beep* and a jackass.

God damn Stevie, do you seriously see the world in sides like black and white or left and right.

Pathetic.

And who is this left wing conspiracy you talk of? What's their affiiation?

How can we identify this group of people that follow a monotonous line of thought?

I guess it takes one to know one?!

The world and people's means of processing thought is not that simple. And someone with your education should realize this.

I like Steve. But I'm not North American. So I don't have any ideological dog in this fight ie US v Canada, US v Europe, Democrats v Republicans.

Just in case Steve or one of his supporters counters, "Bush hasn't touched the constitution!" I will pre-empt them with this: no, he's just ignored it sometimes.

Man, that's too bad. I don't know about you, BB, but I totally *heart* Chavez. And armed proletariat revolutions. And moral relativism. and so on and so forth...
