I was at Dongdaemoon watching some weird music show. Trying to get a picture of a woman singer with a funny tshirt (see below). Anyway, this middle school girl next to me just face plants. Fainted in the heat. Gotta get some shots for my podcast, so I discreetly take a few snaps. But then I notice:

a) everyone is just kind of standing around looking (her friends are attending to her)

b) her friends haul her to her feet and try to make her stand.

Good lord. If no one is going to do anything, I'm going to. I went over to the booth ajumma selling beverages and brought the girl over a bottle of cold water (probably should have gotten some gatorade to replace her electrolytes but I wasn't thinking).

Anyway, in my best broken Korean I tell her friends to at least sit her down. I lead them over to a bench and give her friends my packet of water tissue to wash her face and cool her down more.

The tshirt I was trying to capture:

I saw a girl who was passed out recently too. Me and my wife were making fun of her because we figured she was drunk and I got this picture of her boyfriend trying to wake her up. After we walked past her I heard an ambulance coming over. I thought "Maybe that will wake her up." Turning around I saw them scoop her into the ambulance and speed away.

Man. Lie the people down. Elevate their feet a bit. Get them something cold.

I think people just assume lying=sleeping, sitting up=waking up.

Her embarrassment has entertainment value it seems! You helped after it became clear no one else would... and after you helped yourself to a few pictures of a young girl in a moment of distress? Quite the act of generosity.

You did later tell her you'd post her photos in a public forum, right? right? Oh well, it's not like we can see her face.

Fixed it for you.

Think you can recognize her from her shoes? Just because the news crews video starving people in Africa doesn't mean they don't hand them a sandwich after capturing the news.

At least I tried to help. So yes. Quite the act of generosity.

That's quote worthy. Now you're working it from a "news" angle? Hey, I usually like your posts, but this one...

Many Koreans I have met have little or no basic knowledge of first aid, even the lads that have completed militray service seem clueless what to do. I not saying that they should be able to perform an emergency tracheotomy in a basement PC bang, but to have some sort of idea about how to deal with someone who has fainted is rather basic.

Does noone else think that her ankle looks horribly twisted in the first picture?

Good way to pick up women.

I wish girls would faint more often around me so I can run to the rescue. "Here's a bottle of water and my phone number."

Mindmetoo, given your avatar history, are we to believe that you've also nailed Jesus?

I'm willing to believe dinosaurs... Wink
