Im thinkin of going to the DMZ and im looking on the 'adventure korea' website.

Has anyone done this? Was it worthwhile? Is there any other tours you would recommend?

Been on both the tours. There is a tunnel tour and a tour that takes you to the building half in North Korea. Both were actually really interesting. Adventure Korea may be just arranging it, because both times I went with different companies I ended up with the same tour guide. Not definite though. But they would probably be the same tour and it was good. Think you are getting a better deal than I had through Adventure Korea though.

Go through the USO, they take you into Panmunjeom, the tunnel, and the observatory. It's a great tour, with good guides and a good price. I can't remember the exact price, but it was well worth it.

I think the address is like http://seoul.uso.gov or something like that. Google it if that's not the right addy.

yes, go with the USO...its the only way to go, you will get a great tour

i'll triple the uso rec. they are simply the best at doing the dmz tour

There are many threads on this, so I didn't want to start a new one...

Would it be possible to do the DMZ without a tour group /guide? Has anyone done this?

I was thinking about taking a bus /subway to the DMZ on a day trip by myself. Is that feasible?

I think that depends on what you want to see. If you are content to see the railway and a small museum I think it might be possible. But I am fairly sure you would need a car to get there. However, if you want to see the tunnels or anything else, they are through many checkpoints and you need to go with a tour group.

I was booking a trip for my mother andfoolishly didn't check eslcafe for a recommendation. So here is my advice:

Don't book with mclubtrvel.com! We booked that company for one person only to have them call the day before and say they couldn't take my mother.

"Why?" my mother asked.
"Oh, we don't go to Panmunjeom" they said.

Being a teacher here i decided to call back.

"What nationality are you?" they asked.
"Australian, why does that matter?" I queried.
"Oh, only American and Japanese can go to Panmunjeom."
...
So I cut to it. "Are you refusing to take my mother because she is the only one booked for the tour?"

A pause, then a hesitation, then a quiet: "Yes".

Then I tore in. Let me say that I understand that businesses need unpopular policies to ensure the sustainability of their enterprise. If they had offered to pay for my mother to book another tour then I would have been placated. Instead their solution was to go to the sofitel hotel and book there. I recall using the following words in the ensuing dressing down: unacceptable, unethical, shame, unfair, disappointing. She said she was sorry and I could tell she was but they streamline in so that accountability is divoced from feedback in business.

After hanging up I called cosmojin travel and the contrast couldn't have been greater. Great phone manner anyway, they seemed to have their act together.

Morals of the story,
1. Don't go with mclubtravel when you can go with other great companies.

2. Mess with my mum and ou mess with me.
