Here's a stumper for you to ponder with me ('cause misery loves company):
I bought a calling card (your typical 10-12000W bit) at the traditional market here in Bucheon and tried the sucker out last night. Works like a charm - if I'm calling America.
If I call the young lady in my life in Switzerland, on the other hand, it rings momentarily (on repeated calls, for different lengths of time!), and then a woman starts informing me in Korean (I had a friend translate; I'm new) that I have one minute of calling time left - which is, of course, ridiculous.
THEN: my friend says some person who's Korean starts saying "Anyeung-haseo" (I know what it means; I just don't understand why some Korean woman is repeating it to me when I called Switz.).
WHAT in THE WORLD [check that: just Korea] IS GOING ON HERE?
And more importantly, how can I make this darshgarn thing work? Even if I bought a US/CAN-specific card (foolish me, I know), I should still be able to call (albeit at double the rate) somewhere else, right? |
