I mean, something else must've driven you here. Maybe it was a liking for the exotic, for Oriental food, for the men, or women. But there's no way some of you came here out of a whim. Could it be this?
Could it be their kindness, their givingness? How about their mildness, their goodness?
I see these traits more apparent in Asians compared to Westerners. Of course, Buddhism has a part to play in this, but picture this.
Where would you be without this opportunity? |

| At home. I'd have continued my education, and would be working in a different field for sure - it might have been better, it might not have. The novelty of this place had worn off loooong ago - it's kinda just what I do now. |

Despite having fallen in love with the place, and of course my Korean wife, I'd have to say Japan. Sure, the grass is always greener, but from this side of the East Sea of Japan ditch , the whole country comes across as much more civilised. |

You must be talking about a different country, I had no idea there were two countries called Korea. |

Their kindness?
You mean like when Koreans stare at white people making us feel uncomfortable?
You mean when Koreans block you from exiting the subway with the pure self interest of getting a seat?
You mean like when you're patiently waiting your turn in the convenience store and a Korean cuts in front of you ignoring your presence?
You mean like when Koreans bump you in public and NEVER say "Excuse me"?
You mean like when my students tell me they have to buy ear plugs so they can study in the library where people just won't show some respect to others by being quiet?
You mean like when Koreans spit indoors like in the elevator of my building?
You mean like when you're crossing the street and motocyclists put your life in danger by running through the red light?
You mean like when Koreans stand in the middle of sidewalks and building enterances blocking your path, see you coming and don't move an inch?
You mean like when Koreans deny white people entry to night clubs because you're not Korea?
etc, etc, etc...
Yes, I agree with you. There's no end to Korean kindness.
Thank God I do know some Koreans that are not like this. They are very nice. But Korean society has a long way to go as a whole.[/b]

I came to Korea because of the world famous Na-mi-sum. Korean dramas are famous in the world, and I wanted to see the Mecca of them all and get my picture taken at that famous place where all the trees are lined up in a row.
I also wanted to go to eat kimchi. I found that Korean kimchi was "famous in the world" More famous than say...Brazilian kimchi, or Moroccan kimchi |

Korea could easily sink into the ocean without the world batting an eye.
If there were no Korea, we would all be in Japan. Making a little less, but probably far more impressed with our surroundings. |
