I'm trying to figure out what to do about taxes before I leave Korea. I worked 2 job during my year in Korea and they've been taking taxes out of my salary. What do I need from Korea to file my taxes back home? Am I supposed to get all that money they've been taking out back since I'm an American. I heard that they weren't supposed to take taxes out to begin with. When I tried to telling my job that when I first started, they said it wasn't the case and the kept taking money money. I'm afraid that all that money never even made it to the tax office since they have nothing records for me when I called them.
I'm sure some of you have gone through this before... please help. Thanks. |

Only some teachers are exempt from paying tax in Korea ... Teachers in Public Schools and Universities from some countries are exempt from tax in Korea for the first two years ... Teachers in Hagwons are not exempt from paying tax in Korea. I will assume because they didn't know this and the tax office had no records that you were working for a hagwon .... I guess it is now a case for the Labour Board and Korean Taxation ... Have they been taking out pension ....? If so then as an American that is money that you can get back ...
