Yep. When I think of Islam, 'cool' instantly springs to mind.

Yeah, me too. I think of the cool breeze blowing across the bloody stump of my neck where my head used to be.

I made this thread to stop the others getting clogged up

why dont i tell a story to kick things off

When i was at university i used to buy green from this white guy from Essex. Lets call him Verne. Verne was a bit of a crazy, he was always out drinking, smoking, womanising but I would say that his biggest problem was that he was a massive coke head, and all of the money that he made from selling weed (he actually had quite a good operation going down, with some guy from pakistan) went straight up his nose.
One day I was sitting in my friends room playing some pro-evolution soccer (otherwise known as Winning 11) with the guys when Verne sneezed up a load of his nose, i dont know exactly what it was but it was all lumpy and bloody, it was gross, Verne ran out of the room sharpish.
Long story short Verne was a complete fuq-up, over time i saw less and less of him until gradually i didnt see him at all, a year later though he turned up and we had a quick chat. Turned out he had converted to Islam and sorted his life out.

Good for him right?

When you think of Islam are you thinking of all the different sects of Islam or just the wahabis and those of their ilk?

I think the more moderate sects of islam aren't making enough of an effort to distance themselves from the crazies.

So Islam is like a wierd version of Narcotics Anonymous, except the women have to dress modestly, and you orient the meetings towards Mecca?

Interesting story. Not nearly as interesting, though, as the true story of a young Black man of Jamaican origin who 'discovered' Islam and discovered that it required him to commit mass murder. He went on to murder scores of his fellow Britons on 7-7. Pretty 'cool'.

Perhaps that is because alot of the 'crazies' inspiration comes from the same sources, the Koran and the example of Mohammed, making it very hard for these 'moderates' (who aren't really moderates at all) to challenge their position.

Let's try to be serious. This thread won't last if it consists of veiled personal attacks. Although it is the Islamic Thread, so somethings should be veiled, I guess.

Big_Bird in the other thread mentioned a final solution to this mess. I decided to answer her seriously. I advocated:

Quote:
[An] abolition of Islamist government across the world. Islam, as practiced by individuals, would be tolerated and in certain cases even protected. Islam, as a political tenet, would be persecuted and abolished. Islamism needs to die. Islam can stay. Perhaps Islam needs to confront certain Islamist principles in its faith before it can properly be distinguished from Islamism, but to that I cannot speak because I am not a scholar on Islam or Islamic law.

Discuss.

I have to agree with removing political Islam as it creates too many complications for those muslims living in non Islamic majority countries.

It raises the problem of whether to accept Islamic rules as being superior to their domestic laws.

I think that most of those measures are unnecessary, and impossible to implement. My position is as follows. What medieval nonsense Muslims want to get upto in their own countries is of little concern to me. What they do in the West is of great concern to me.

We should do as follows:

1. Massively reduce, and in some cases reverse immigration from Muslim countries
2. Lessen our dependence on Middle East oil.
3. Close down any mosques that preach anti-infidel hatred or campaign for Islamic Law in the West. At the same time stop the overseas funding of Mosques, Islamic centres etc. from countries which do not allow full equality for religious minorities.
4. Have an honest public debate about the tenets of Islam, and speak frankly, without consideration of PC sensibilities, of what is acceptable in our countries.

I think Islam is cool because it is the only solution to alcohol-related problems e.g. it should be completely banned.

I love Islam because it eradicated racism over 1400 years ago, centuries ahead of the west, which only addressed this issue in the last century.

I love the rules in Islam pertaining to personal hygiene, how we wash our private parts with water and don't urinate like the west, with half of the urine dribbling down our legs....yuck.

I love Islam because there is no priesthood, anybody willing to put in the time and effort can potentially become an Islamic scholar.

I love how Islam encourages being good to your Parents, family and neighbours whether they are Muslim or Non-Muslim.

I love how Islam encourages Muslims to treat Non-Muslims with kindness, unless they are at war with them.

I love Islam because it is the only way of life which has remained unchanged for over 1400 years and continues to remain the same, much to the annoyance of those trying to eradicate it.

I love Islam because I only lower my head to God alone and not to any created being.

I love Islam because we don't eat swine.

I love Islam because as promised by God Himself in the Qur'an, the Qur'an has remained unchanged from the time it was revealed to Muhammad. There is only one version of the Qur'an, and that is the one God revealed to Muhammad.

I love Islam because it forbids all evil e.g. all harmful drugs and intoxicants, adultery, fornication, stealing, raping, hooliganism, murder etc.

I love halal food and the delicious food that Muslims have all over the world, especially Pakistani food.

I love Islam because it is the only true religion.

I love Islam because the concept of God is Perfect e.g. He is not a man/idol, but the Unseen, Unique, Almighty Creator of all things.

I love Islam because when people ask me about my identity, I say I am Muslim first and then British, Pakistani, a fan of Cricket etc. always comes after that.

I love Islam because despite the media we Muslims are well-wishers for mankind and we'd like to see them all become Muslim, because we believe those who die associating partners with God, will fail in this life and will burn in Hell for eternity in the next.

To avoid eternal suffering, we want to see all become Muslim for that reason.

I love Islam because we are as Muslims are proud to say God's law is Supreme and better than all other ways of life, so we are proud to say we disbelieve in democracy e.g. man decides what is right/wrong instead of God.

I love Islam because it teaches us to show respect to Muslims and Non-Muslims. I love it because it teaches we should love and hate for the sake of God alone, whatever pleases Him we love, whatever displeases Him we hate.

This means we are not driven by a personal agenda or by petty squabbles.

I love Islam because despite the west trying all it can to denigrate it, the west has failed to defeat Islam ideologically or militarily. What they cite as apparent weaknesses are actually the strongest elements of Islam e.g. women's dress, punishments for crime etc.

I love Islam because it encourages honesty, helping the weak, feeding the hungry, standing up for what is most just for Muslims and non-Muslims alike.

I love Islam because it's history shows how benevolent it has been to it's enemies e.g. how they helped the Jews in the middle ages, and how advanced they were in science and civilization, centuries ago.

The future is for Islam.

Who is your favourite Muslim?

Mine is Nicholas Anelka

A naturally gifted footballer he started impressing early in his teens, earning big money moves away from Arsenal to Real Madrid and then Paris Saint Germaine.

His problem was however that he was known as 'Le Sulk' , he was never happy, after his move to Real Madrid he got into a downward spiral career wise, including playing for rubbish teams like Manchester City. The France Manger wanted nothing to do with him either.

Later he converted to islam and moved to Fenerbache, but their style of play didnt suit him. He found himself at Bolton, and was top scorer for them last year. He is now being linked with big money moves to Manchester United and back to Arsenal, now he has finally found inner peace.

My other favourite Muslim was a guy who for the sake of this story I shall call Mo. Mo was a good guy, from algeria, we lived together for a short while. One day I was in my bedroom and I could hear a heated argument going on downstairs. All of a sudden Mo runs up to my room and says: 'safeblad, Do you believe that people come from monkeys'...the guy was in fits of laughter...'what is it called....'
God bless his simple Algerian soul he had never even heard of Evolution, and this was an intelligent guy with a masters in Computer Science from City University in London.

you?

FromtheUK You should try eating swine, i guarantee that you will like it, and then once you start eating the traditional english breakfast, you will feel a greater affinity for Britain.
