EPIK: Wonderful program...consider my week compared to flutie's and keep in mind that we work in the same province for the same employer(arranged by EPIK). Also, we have the same pay/qualification level.
My week: 14 lessons(a slack week for me!). Average time of getting home: 6 p.m. Days off: none(in fact, 4 of my classes are on Fri.).
Rest of summer: no promise of vacation. There are vague hints of extra duties in the offing but no hint of extra pay. Why should there be? I've hardly ever gotten any yet. Hell, I'm tickled pink when I get my regular salary ON TIME.
And people wonder why EPIK is scorned by so many, save the priviliged few who have simply lucked into enviable situations.... |

Mosley,
Some people just want to work their foreign teachers to death, I think sometimes. Your situation sucks. |

I get about 4 months of paid vacation a year, spread out through the year, and I don't have to do something you University teachers have to do.... no grading tests or homework, and no mid-terms or finals. I give my own tests sometimes, though, for my own records.
18 teaching hours/week during 10 to 4 hours.
Glad the original poster is happy, but I'm happy where I'm at.
Oh, and I don't live in a dorm. |

I don't like to brag but vacation starts tomorrow so I'm feeling 'top of the world'. My family and I are heading home for several weeks of touring, eating and visiting.
My usual week
Maximum of 20 50 minute classes
20 students per class as English Conversation is an elective subject.
6 classes, same grade 3 times a week each, plus a couple of teacher classes.
8:00am - 4:00pm Mon-Fri
5 week summer vacation
9 week winter vacation
4 weeks exams 8-11 No classes
8 weeks oral testing
15? National holidays
6? random school holidays
4 days camp (this year China) however I stay home.
Few discipline problems, can beat them if I want however I don't feel the need to. 15 Korean English teachers, with about 8 who are near fluent.
2 fully paid 'meetings' per month at a local restaurant, followed by a bar.
Catered lunch is provided everyday, in a seperate teachers dining room. The quality is excellent and the food varied, server yourself buffet style.
It almost feels like I'm not working at all. My only gripe is that provided the students with a government issued book which is crap so I have to make up all my lesson plans and materials from scratch. However next year will be a breeze as I will have all the plans/materials ready. |

I don't teach at a hogwon either, though I used to. Is there really a point to this OP beyond trying to make people feel unhappy about their jobs that they might otherwise have been happy at? I believe most hogwon teachers are well aware that their contracts are far inferior to those of universities, with exceptions. Not sure what throwing it in their faces yet again accomplishes.
Flutie, if you were a doctor or a lawyer back home, would you go up to every janitor or garbage collector you could find and show them your monthly pay stubs and photos of your backyard swimming pool? |

Same dif. What point is there to forcing down the throats of people working elsewhere that he's got a better deal? He also has a BEd, and many/most hogwonites don't. He comes off really poorly. |

Because he's dumping on people who don't have jobs that are as good. He's trying to bring them down with "get out of hagwons NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!". |
