The director decided to terminate my contract Friday July-20-2007 and I must leave the apartment next Friday July-27-2007 on the evening after teaching. The contracts states: he must give me 60 days notice, in writing but he thinks the contract does not apply to him - just me. Rolling Eyes

I have filed a complaint with Labor Commission but this will take more than a week to reach fruition.

I went to the police who were very good. The officer apologized for the director's strang behaviour. The Police said: 'if he breaks into your apartment we will arrest him.' It appears to evict someone in Korea is like the West; they must have a court order.

Immigration said: they would take no action as the contracts says 60 days notice in writing + 14 days; time to organize yourself to leave.

Anyone with any experience on this topic or useful advice.

The authorities are surprisingly on your side, whether they actually come through is another issue.

If you like the place, fight for it but I'd shed it and him ASAP. If you have enough money for your own place, get one.

edenrealty.co.kr has a good reputation.

so you're getting a release letter from him? Thats very important.

I wouldn't want to stay there if I was you anyway.....

I see the dilemma and he really should have given you full notice, but now that you know what an arse he is, the sooner you are out the better.

Do you have any friends you can stay with?

Like I said, if you have a release letter you are free to get another job asap WITHOUT having to do a visa run outside Korea. Thats important. You could use this opp. to get a better job.

Its a stressful situation to be in, but things will work out you'll see, probably for the better.

Ask him for a release letter first. Then refuse to leave. Buy lots of food and baricade the place from invasion. Technically he can't boot you out for a month. It's not 2 months...it's one.

There are provisions in the LSA {Article 32} that stipulate your employer must give you an Advance Notice of Dismissal of 30 days prior to dismissal or pay wages of GREATER THAN 30 DAYS. Your contract states 60 days where you may be entitled to 60 days pay, so it may be a good idea to get clarification on this issue. Call the labor office at 1350.

Change the locks now. Don't wait...the director has a key to your apartment. You must change the locks or the dick will be in the apartment. They always try to have a key to the place and most times they keep a secret set.
