Just out of curiosity, what was the paperwork like? Do you now have dual citizenship? Is it true you can work in a school and do all of the privates you want? Does your wife / husband have dual citizenship? I heard it's illegal for a Korean citizen to have dual citizenship...just wondering what all this involves--that way I'll know whether or not I want to consider dating Korean women!

I'm Canadian

Paperwork was pretty easy. For the wedding, just one visit to the Consulate in Busan. They are very kind and helpful. Next, to Korean immi to change my ARC from E5 (or 2??) to and F2. Again, very easy. My wife had to write a note telling the history of our relationship...first date, when we fell in love, crap like that.

As for her becoming Canadian.... when we are ready to move to Canada their is a lengthy application to be done for her to get Landed Immigrant status (sorry, may be wrong word), but she definitely does NOT get citizenship right away. She'll have to live in Canada a while before that happens. The application should take about 6 months and there are a whack load of forms to fill out and things to get translated. All in all though, nothing too overwhelming.

We had a daughter. She is dual citizen and will stay that way until she's about 18 (could be 19 or 20) and then she must choose one. Getting her Canadian citizenship was simple. Just another visit to the Consulate with all the right paperwork.

I do not have Korean citizenship and it will be a cold day in hell before I give up being a Canadian for this little hole.

I can do privates but have to register with the authorities so that they can approve and, I think, charge me taxes.

Kinda disorganized answer, but I think it has everything you were asking for.

I'm Canadian too and went through the same process. It's actually very complicated but if you (who am I kidding--your wife) get everything together it won't be too complicated.
