Yes. Before you can get your college degree, though, you will probably have to finish high school (check with your embassy for more information). As college will take between 4 and 6 years to complete, please plan accordingly. Good luck. |

What do you mean by a college degree? A 2 year Associates Degree? Then no, your friend can not teach here legally. Only a Bachelor Degree or higher is acceptable.
And eddie1983man, if this is your question, and you've been in Korea more than a day, it doesn't matter how many degrees you have, you should know the answer. |

eddie, this board is full of them. To answer your question, A TEFL cert. is not necessary and most employers in Korea have never even heard of such a thing. No one ever claimed that Korea was on the up-and-up with regards to their hiring policies and institute practices. That being said, there are many people who teach English all over Korea who have never stepped foot on a college campus. Some are bold enough to claim they are better teachers than the majority of the ones with degrees. Nevertheless, these individuals are illegal because they either have fake degrees or the institutes hire them without proper visas (i.e. tourist visas). So what do you need to work legally in Korea as an ESL teacher? Ans. You need an honest to goodness, real, earned Bachelor's degree, sealed transcripts and an E2 visa. That's it and that's all. Feel free to leave behind your high expectations as this will be very necessary for your overall well-being. That is, to have low expectations. |

I'm not sure how it is set up in the states, but yes, in Canada a typical college degree is 2 years. In most provinces a Bachelors Degree is 3 years. And, BTW i wasn't trying to brag about my degrees or anything, I just get a little annoyed with stupid people (not you, the other guy ). I did assume you needed a 3 year University degree i just wanted to be sure (I've only been here less than 30 days.). Thanks for the response. |

You should read the FAQs and stickies before you go calling people names.
Smee's response was only highlighting your lack of research and reading on the sight. You may have well asked what language is spoken here. |

Smees response was just a smart-@ss comment, nothing more. If he was highlighting my lack of research, maybe he could have wrote "perhaps you should consult the FAQ's or Sticky section" or something to that extent.
But i think they way he went about it was just him being a smart @ss |
