Are all Western or American criminals the same in Asia ill-regard of deeper social identities?
Yes, an American is an American and that's about all a headline should state.

No, a perpetrator should be identified to enough degree so that not ALL groups are dragged down with him.

I ask this question because on too many occasions I've seen comments made with over generalizations about "Westerners" and Americans. We frequently see America bashed by Far Eastern countries for issues which have deeper details. Too often we hear "those Americans" when in fact as an American I can say with unquestionable certainty, "it's not this American nor anyone within six degrees of seperation from where this American grew up."

Japan jails US (Latino) marine for rape (click here for full)

Corporal Torres was found guilty of raping and beating a 19-year-old woman in an attack on 25 May. Prosecutors had demanded a five-year prison sentence, saying that Torres had punched the woman in the face and broken her nose before raping her on a road near the town of Kin.

A run of crimes committed by US soldiers, including the rape in 1995 of a local schoolgirl by three US servicemen, has led to some calls for the removal or scaling down of the American presence, though other residents welcome the US military's importance to the local economy.

The above gang rapes, as well as a number of rapes that have occured every couple of years in Okinawa were not committed by whites.

Question: should a headline about a crime committed by a foreigner clearly include every identifying characterstic besides just some unidentifiable name and country nationality? Is it fair for the "goateed white males" of no or much rarer criminality to be blended with ghetto bangers just out getting some poontang through rape overseas?

Furthermore, is anyone else here getting really tired of the expatriate one-worlder peace-fascists constantly bashing on the heart of America, and to an extent other Western nations, in order to squash out an atmosphere of completely ruthless realistic conversation?

The above sign the youngster is holding says in what is basically gibberish broken trash talk, "As long as there is an {American} base, the {criminal} incidents will never go away nor stop." But is this fair to say that all Americans overseas commit an equal or even level of crimes/rapes, or are there some racial/social groups that bring it all down for many others? I think the latter.

uh do you have facts or just mouthing off some racist garbage?

All you've got to back up your story is one, yes ONE, latino who was guilty of this crime.

I'll give you some facts:

1) Blacks do in fact have a higher % of their population in jail than other races
2) Latinos and Caucasians have similar, that's right, SIMILAR % of people in jail. Meaning 1% of latinos are in jail while 1% of white people are in jail. That isn't the right %, just giving an example.
3) Asians are the lowest of them all
4) Whites are the biggest % of prisoners in the USA. of course this doesn't mean much because whites are also the most numerous in the USA.
5) The penalty for dealing crack cocaine is much more stiff than dealing the powder stuff. Since blacks are the primary dealers for the rock, and white people are dealers of the latter, its rather racist
6) and before you say anything about drug crime being insignificant, its the #1 crime of prisoners in the federal prision system.

This all comes from the Dept. of Justice. I will be happy to provide you links in a bit. I've got into this dumb debate numerous times, which is why I remember this stuff.

ah, here is one link I just found:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/954681/posts

Blacks: 10.4% in jail
Whites: 1.2%
Latinos: 2.4%

That is of 25-29 yr old males, not the total population.

Another link:

http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0778436.html

I stand corrected, more blacks in state prisons than white people. Whites are #2.

Look at drug offenses on the chart. Blacks and whites are fairly similar in # of crimes commited except for drug offenses and sexual assults (excluding rape). Many more blacks in the former, many more whites in the latter.

And from the horse's mouth (ie dept. of justice):

Good, and I'll have more than enough info links to make your super-race gittery heart miss three or four beats. Of course, it will be completely unbiased information with no agenda other than facts and reality. But it will be at grave risk of being deleted from here, I think, because it doesn't seem to fit into the angry-peace-fascists' thin thinking template.

But again, partially because this is ESL in Korea as well as this thread topic, let's try to keep it "Westerners in Asia," not FREE MUMIA the Raggae cop killer in the Midwestern US.

Coffeecup, coffeecup, have you even arrived in Korea yet?

Since you joined the forum, you've thrown around a lot of racially loaded rhetoric, and I get the impression that you're paranoid about being discriminated against, because you're (gasp) white!

Honestly, anyone who isn't 100% born and bred Korean stands out a LOT here, That can be a blessing or a curse, depending on the situation. If you're having these kinds of issues now, mightn't it be a good idea to consider moving to some virtually homogeous caucasian society( or seek professional help), rather than to a place that's gonna feed your paranoia?

Upon reading Peppermint's post, I'd strongly suggest that you stay at home Coffecup. We already have enough white guys with their heads stuck up their asses here in Korea. We dont need another one.

The Marine got 3 years for rape. Arguably a light sentence.

A Japanese cop in Kanagawa just got sentenced to 2.5 years for groping a girl. (source: japantoday.com)

It's not only the non-natives who get put away in Asian countries, even though that's mostly what you hear about on the local newscasts. Crimes commited by foreigners are easier to dismiss (in the sense of, "our people would never do such things") than those commited by locals. It's easier to hear bad news if it doesn't reflect poorly on your own culture.

Why do you think Koreans call it the "IMF Crisis" instead of the "Chaebol Crisis?"

I won't speak about Japan, but Korean men here commit FAR more rapes, even as a percentage of pop, than GI's. That, however, is not represented in the media. When a GI commits a crime, it's ooooh look at those evil foreigners at it again, we must get rid of them. The racism in this country is deep and profound.

Kind of like how everyone gets up in arms in our respective countries when a bunch of Chinese immigrants show up?

This is true. It's been a favourite rant of mine for years. It's like getting in a horrific car crash because you've been driving and drinking, having your mangled but barely alive body rescued from the wreckage by heroic paramedics who rush you to the hospital in their ambulance and spend years rehabilitating you - and then forevermore you refer to the event as the "Ambulance Crisis".

CoffeeCup,

Are you in Korea or just mouthing off from afar?
Also, you do realised that by proclaiming that your next bash will be based on "unbiased" data that just throws out the window any shred of objectivity it might have had...
Becks said it best my friend....

Now, was this supposed to make any sense at all Cup?
What exactly is "ruthless realistic conversation"?
Who are these "one-worlder-peace-fascists" (a very entertaining concept though)?

You seem to have let the rant get before the argument mate.

Not really. New Zealand has had a steady stream of Chinese immigration sinse our gold rush in the early 1800's so we're quite comfortable with them at this stage. At the moment, I'm proud to say we don't ask where you're from, but how much money and education do you have, and what work do you intend to do.
