I've heard of this place... but that's about it.

Can anyone tell me more about Ansan City?

Add in the nasty air that makes Seoul look like untouched nature, and that's the gist of it.

I have lived in Ansan for the last year, and am moving to Suwon next week. Ansan is a decent place to live, but the air is not that good. There are some foreigner hangouts in the Jungang and Hanyang Uni area. Ansan station also has a lot of good restaurants.

I have a Korean friend who tells me there are loads of murders in Ansan, mainly among the Chinese immigrants. But aside from that I don't know much.

Great restaurants (non-Korean), good chance to meet people who are not Korean and good shopping for non-Korean goods. It's also close enough to Seoul to make it worthwhile. I'd go there in a heartbeat for the right job.

Ansan is great, very green...the air is not so bad, so long as you are not in the factory district. There are loads of foreigners in my neighbourhood (Handaeup station). Housing is likely to be a bit roomier than inSeoul, too.

I like Ansan... to eat Indian food, Chinese, or Thai. Then, I leave. Wouldn't wanna live there.

Ansan is great for a guy like me, who's been here for a while and has a young family.

Probably a little boring for a young strapping lad or lass...

thanks for the responses.

Ansan doesn't sound so bad. I lived in Wonju a year ago and loved it after people told me it was awful too.

Are there a lot of U.S. military bases around Ansan? I am looking to avoid those as much as possible.

-No military base, but the Koreans living there are of a more redneck breed.

-The air is extremely rancid; until i moved away i was picking black boogers out of my nose on a daily basis.

-Most people living in this city are unable to speak even the most basic English.

-It takes about an hour to reach most places in Seoul by subway.

If you like fried chicken on a stick with hot sauce like i do, you might find some redeeming value in this hellhole.

I make a four-hour trip to Ansan once a month (two hours each way) to pick up cartons of cloves. I can't find the damn things anywhere else.

Ansan, as far as I can tell, is a pit. The people are nice in my experience, but I wouldn't ever want to live there.
